Following on from their announcement a few weeks ago to introduce sponsored ads, Instagram gives us a glimpse at what they will look like on our news feed.
The ads will be labelled as “sponsored” and will appear in your news feed from brands you don’t follow. If you click on the three dots in the bottom right, you are given the option to hide the ad, provide feedback on why you didn’t like it and opt out.
To begin with, Instagram are only allowing a handful of brands to advertise on instagram including Levi’s, PayPal and Ben and Jerry’s.
In their recent blog, Instagram said “We want ads to be creative and engaging, so we’re starting with just a handful of brands that are already great members of the Instagram community. If you see an ad that doesn’t interest you, you can tap the “…” below it to hide it and provide feedback about what you didn’t like. This will help us show you more interesting ads in the future.”
Like Facebook, ads will be based on your likes and interests and Instagram will use your feedback on sponsored ads to tailor future messages.
The launch is limited to the USA at first, launching later to all instagram users over 18 years of age.
What are your thoughts on the addition of sponsored ads? Annoying or a great addition to your news feed?
